THE DISCIPLING MODEL Disciple-making should be the center of all church activities. Spiritual multiplication and reproduction of believers, not just adding members to the church, was the approach of Jesus and Paul. Jesus said, "Go and make disciples ... teaching them to do everything that I have commanded you" (Matt. 28:19-20). Paul said, "We should stop going over the elementary truths about Christ and move on to topics for more mature people" (Heb. 6:1a). Paul told the purpose of Bible study for members: "To prepare God's people for works of service" (Eph. 4:12); for leaders to teach and "entrust to faithful men who will also be able to teach others" (2 Tim. 2:2).
THE STRATEGY & SYSTEM The "Empowering & Mobilizing God's People" Discipling Series helps mobilize the entire church by equipping God's people through an intensive educational curriculum to activate the priesthood of all believers in the most Biblical and practical way. Members are fed and led by God's Word to be totally obedient to Christ's Great Commission. These books open doors to mobilize Christians to enter many new avenues of Gospel ministry. Believers are empowered to initiate, lead, and become engaged in the comprehensive, extensive, and all-embracing work which Christ has given them to be full participants, not merely spectators.
Empowerment is the key. The Discipling Series presents the practical application of Eph. 4 in leadership and member development for greater ministry and mission. It is a liftime learning process for spiritual growth and discovery, which leads from knowledge and understanding to action. Beginning with information, it takes the participant to spiritual formation and transformation - a living relationship with the living God and fellow believers.
This Discipling Series, with the individual courses, offers the following benefits:
|
| Help teachers/facilitators guide the participants/students toward self-discovery and group-discovery for maximum learning and putting their faith into practice - through interactive learning. Teach the heart as well as the head how great is God's grace. |
|
| Assist congregations to become Equipping Centers, making the training/empowering of all believers and leaders a priority. |
|
| Change members from maintenance to mission mentality through renewal Bible studies, instead of being pushed by programs and traditions. Translate attitudes toward a life-long journey of discipleship beyond comfort zones toward enlarged productivity. |
|
| Release all believers for full participation in God's mission through becoming teachers, spiritual leaders, care givers, support group directors, and personal witnesses of Jesus Christ. |
|
| Provide effective Small Group interactive Bible Studies for ChristCare and Cell Churches. |
Waldo J. Werning Proposing biblical principles, The Seed-Planting, Nurturing Church shows how the church can be revitalized by God's design. While traditional, institutional churches try to renew themselves with visionary leaders who mold the church in programmatic or organizational ways, this book focuses on the organic, natural body of Christ," community of faith" design. It displays a nurturing seed-planting model in place of a maintenance harvesting style of church. Mission and church growth leaders tell that this book fills "a neglected niche" in growing healthy churches. |

Waldo J. Werning (306 pages) Proposes the Mission of God to be all about moving and mapping. Based upon the New Testament model, many barriers are identified as maintenance and institutional restrictions to the mission. There is a sharp focus on the historic tension between Biblical doctrine and church practice. God's people must be mobile, coming and going, and gathering and scattering to reach everyone everywhere with the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. World mission leader, Ralph D. Winter, in the Foreward writes, "This arresting, tough-minded book empowers the reader ... It's a mission handbook to keep at hand for a long time to come!" With innovative "Measuring Our Maps" instruments, it is a self-help guide for Biblical remapping of congregations. Discussion guides are designed for church members, leaders, pastors, college and seminary classrooms. |

Turning Donors Into Disciples Waldo J. Werning This 2009 publication on biblical giving challenges pastors and churches to do faith-raising, not fund-raising, and to use budgets to spend the money, not to ask for money. It challenges stewardship leaders to grab the “stewardship monster” by the throat and to eat the “financial crisis” elephant bite by bite, to experience breakthrough giving or breakaway funding of God’s ministries. The budget virus and needs disease are identified in the two competing stewardship of giving systems: budgets-needs versus biblical giving of generous first fruits and tithing by God’s grace and through trusting faith. It tells how to reach God’s expectations, not ours. It reveals the heart and individual faces of a Christian steward. It displays the spiritual journey that transforms donors into faithful disciples who express their faith through a variety of ministries of witnessing, serving and giving. |
Waldo J. Werning Turning Church Donors Into Disciples This is a fresh and unique, one-of-a-kind book to help a church to transition in stewardship and giving from a traditional, maintenance, harvesting church to a seed- planting, nurturing, mission church. It presents a grace stewardship system which is an "energy field" flowing from the explosive Word to grow productive stewards. Rev. Larry Reinhardt, Director of LCMS Stewardship Ministry calls it a "no-nonsense approach to grace-based preaching and teaching of real biblical stewardship. Principles and lessons are wonderfully biblical, clear, practical and workable with encouragement to avoid appeals based on budgets and needs. There is a wealth of food for thought and action." It shows how abundant planting and nurturing produces abundant stewardship harvests. (64 pages) |
Waldo J. Werning A dynamic and Biblical stewardship approach to show how Christians should be confronted with the Word of God, and then committed to a life of doing God's will in service and giving. It is unique in presenting both a sound Biblical base for stewardship and practical methods to instill exciting stewardship activities in a congregation. This is a truly Christian, Biblical and effective stewardship resource for stewardship leaders. |
Your Service and Giving - It's All About God and You! Waldo J. Werning A 14-page Biblical message on Christian giving which focuses on connecting strongly with Jesus by faith, not just attending church and trying to serve and give a little. It's not about being a member of a church, but about our life and ministry to God as servants of Christ by His grace. God's advice for our giving habits is offered through lessons from 2 Corinthians 8 and 9. |
